oops i got carryed away
 

i installed suze linux 9.1 on my dell computor(gx110). problem is that when i installed in on the hard drive i didnt get acouple files off that i need. i was running windows 2000 before. is there any way to get those file back? any help would be welcome. thanks

Nope.

Unfortunately when you created the linux partitions and formatted your drive, you destroyed all the windows data. You just have to be careful next time and backup all your important data.

depends on how desparate you are

if those files were really really important( in which case you should have had a back up), you can always use some kind of file recovery programs like easyrecovery etc.

Some of these programs are awsome and can recover files removed ages and ages ago, but it all depends on chance. whether the sectors containing your data were overwritten or not. TRy, you may get lucky and recover the data. (i did recover my data lost my formatting) so they do work.

When you installe Linux on the Windows drive... Did you do any type of partition resizing, splitting, whatever? Reason I ask is that if you did your windows partition could still be there. have you checke your /etc/fstab to see what partitions are mountable.

Of course, if you did use the whole drive for Linux, it would be very difficult to recover any data. I have heard of recovering from partitioning and formating but usually that is before any data has been written to them.
