OO suite not printing, everything does print

I just installed SimplyMEPIS 3.4 with OO 2.0.1. Nothing OO ever tries to print actually prints, the printer does not even start up. But even "lp" works, as well as othe X apps. Printer is a Canon bjc4550 using bjc800 mode. Other X apps show the printer as Postscript/Canon, while OO shows only "canon" (the default). I can't find a printer configuration for OO. The Mepis side shows cups etc, are all there and working.

There is a printer configuration utility under OO menus (I think it was under "File") that you can use to choose and/or set the printer that OO uses. There used to be, at least, when I last tried OO2..

Yes indeed, I've been there and done that, and I'm that stupid having used UNIX
for for 25 years. The OO printer selection offers only "canon" which the default
name used by "lp". Now since "lp" will print, and so will firebird, thunderbird etc, what I am asking is how/why firefox is asking me to choose between two printers: "CUPS/canon" & "PostScript/default", and OO offers only "canon" and that does nothing. BTW Redhat, Mandrake, Suse, Fedora Core, and Mandriva did not have
this problem.

OO has a printer admin utility that might not be listed in your menus. IIRC, the command is spadmin from the same directory that the swrite, smath, simpress, etc run from.

Thanks, I *knew* I wasn't mad. In /usr/bin is "oopadmin". When launched it
I found all settings to be "from driver", I changed "postscript" to "1" (the
other option was "2"), and colour from "from driver" to "color". Now oopadmin
(at least) prints it's test page. oowriter still does not print, but at least
I'm in the right direction. I'll see what a reboot does, but time to cook dinner
now here in OZ.

Thanks dracolich!
One reboot after running oopadmin, and now I'm printing.
