Only 2.1 on 5.1 set?

Hello everyone!

I have a Logitech z5500 5.1 digital surround set, which is connected to my htpc through a toslink cable.

I do have sound, but only 2.1.

When i do a channel test, i don't hear anything through the rear and center speakers. It does work when i connect it on other systems, so it must be Ubuntu related?

Everything is enabled in alsamixer.

Have you tried the "Advanced" option from your first screenshot?

Yes, the only options are AC3, DTS, etc (all enabled) and latency offset.

i think i shouldn't have posted here in the first place, but since i already did, here's my 2ct's worth:

i don't even know what a toslink cable is, and i had to look up "htpc".

it stands to reason that a setup like this is not (necessarily) supported out of the box on a vanilla desktop distro.
it is certainly possible to set it up.
maybe you should look at dedicated HTPC distros. possibly helpful search phrases:
mythtv, mythbuntu, xbmc, ubuntu studio
