Online update , thru Yast for Suse Linux 9.3 not working
I am unable to Update my Suse Linux 9.3 online using Yast.
When i press the Online Update buttton
A warning message comes up telling - " Cannot fetch remote server list.Only user defined patch sources will be available "
It's also written as possible solution - " check network connection "
when i press the Detail button it teels " 'host name' couldn't connect to host "
I tried going to user defined patch option and pressing the New Server button there
i gave " ftp.isu.net.sa " as Server
and " /pub/mirrors/ftp.suse.com/1386/9.3 " as Directoty on server
Then when i tried to update it gave me an error message like - " Patch information retrieval failed " telling the reason in the details button as " error couldn't connect to host "
Can u help me with this ?
I'm new to Linux
And this is the second time i'm trying to update the OS. It had worked perfectly, the first time. But i don't know what happened now .
It seems that something is blocking yast, probably a firewall. Check the firewall settings.
By the way, the correct path would be /pub/mirrors/ftp.suse.com because yast will automatically cd to i386/update/9.3
I have exactly the same problem, under SuSE 9.1. It worked fine when I was at uni, but now I'm at home and it doesn't work any more. I don't think I have a firewall either. My brother is on the same internet connection and it works for him. Any other suggestions?
In the system information does it say the correct product name and version? Or it says unknown?
Because I had a problem with this and before I fixed it, it used to say "could not connect to host".
Here is the thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=359131
Had the same problem for many many days.
Read much like disabling ipV6,tried to modify /etc/youservers ,turn off firewall but all did no good..
Strange thing was i have a home network with 3 suse 9.3 pcs and the others updated o.k (all pcs installations were from the same 5 suse 9.3 ftp iso cds). Also i had no problem browsing the internet, and firewall is turned off on the system with the online update problem (there is a firewall on the adsl gateway).
Finally I noticed on
Yast -> NetWork services -> Proxy
there was my previous proxy set there.
Set it up to use no proxy ,(connection throuhg adsl gateway).
It gave me a message like YOU is set to take the changes automatically but for other programs like wget, lynx you must log off and log in.
Ok i said nice run online update once more , same shit again : couldn' t connect to host
log off and log in ..
Bingo YOU works.
Hope this is the case
