On knoppix STD Startup Screen goes blank and monitor light flashes...

Well this is the only Linux that worked for me except that when knoppix STD finally starts up the screen goes blank and the monitor light flashes then nothing happens, I have left it and came back an hour later to it doing the same thing

Is this normal and how long might i have to wait??

Thank You

STD

Well let's see. First of all, knoppix-STD, it's not an alternative to Knoppix, STD is not about Linux it's about security tools. And Knoppix Std it boots from the cd, overtaking any operating system that's installed on the computer, i'm not sure what you are trying to say here, but maybe just try a more complex version of linux, like Red Hat, or SuSE, Mandrake , or just be more specific. Good Luck.

mattyoly, I think you are being slightly harsh...

ygn, welcome to LQ! I'm guessing what you're trying to say is that you've tried quite a few Linux live CDs, but none of them seem to work successfully? And you've just tried Knoppix-StD, and that one almost worked?

Well, I had exactly the same problem on my laptop, and actually, I left it at that. I tried several distros and they all failed to boot. Now, I know there must be some startup option that you can apply before clicking the infamous "Enter" when you pop in the CD on boot which will help it work, but I haven't discovered it yet.

What you could try doing though is using one of the more popular live CDs/DVDs. The SUSE Live DVD is very good, and you may find that it works on your system... I personally use the Ubuntu and Kubuntu live CDs when all else goes wrong...

Try those out, and see if they work. I don't think you'd find Knoppix-StD that useful anyway, as it's just a stripped-down version of Knoppix with an array of powerful security tools. Try the ones I suggested, and also consider installing one of them (like Ubuntu) onto your hard drive to test if that works.

HTH,

J_K9, sorry for being harsh, wasn't trying to, but i see that we're somehow almost on the same page. I just hope ygn will try something better then Knoppix STD, that's all.
My apologize again, for being harsh :)

Use frame buffer mode, or try this at the boot prompt: knoppix screen=800x600

Worked!

Thanks, knoppix screen=800x600 worked.
