old laptop... what version of linux?

I have an old Toshiba 440cx Laptop (pentium processor, 16mb ram, 1.5gb HD) that currently has a really unstable operating system on it.. I want to install linux so that I can run a simple server with forum, etc..

What version of linux should I install?

I'm pretty sure linux requires at least 32mb of ram

The newer the Linux still applies. However you can get away with some older Linux distros here. Experiment! Linux by itself don't take much, but X slows it way down.

The test computer is a 486 laptop with 16 MB RAM, and all apps which comes with DeLi Linux are running smoothly.

Try Damn Small Linux: that doesn't even need a Pentium!

Wrong.
I think Slackware needs at least 16MB of ram.

Yes, I recently found a distro that doesn't need more than 8MB but I'm afraid I have forgotten what it was called. I found it on distrowatch.com so I guess you could have a look for yourself.
