The shutdown/restart (and I guess sleep/hibernate) options are missing because you started X after logging in to console.
Runlevel 3 is console mode.
Runlevel 4 is GUI mode (X starts automatically on boot and you have a visual login interface)
When you start X from console, you will return there (to the console prompt) after exiting your window manager.

AFAIK openSUSE uses Grub boot manager.
Try editing boot options (in the grub screen) when you start the computer. Try putting 4 instead of 3 at the end of line. If there are no numbers, try appending 4 at the end of line. Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst file to make it permanent.

By the way, those boot messages don't look too wrong. I guess they were hidden from you by some kind of splash screen.

Good luck sorting your system!

PS.
Shutdown from console:
shutdown -h now
Restart:
shutdown -r now
You probably need root privileges to do that.

Hey dude... first of all.. thanks for taking the time to read and try to help me out with ma boo.

i tried doin sumthin after enter boot screen but its not like i can do anything.,. it gives a few commands that i cud type in , eg: Acpi=oldboot
but wher do i type this? as root in console?
do i need to add anything before i type that command? like a "su -"?
I cant seem to help it but i know i'm an idiot with this right now.

how do i change runlevel as 4 instead as 3?
I cant seem to open that menu.lst file in grub or even edit it.

And best of all.... now i got more problems:
- Audio aint playing now
-Cant see my battery icon in the taskbar

Is there like any tool that wud automatically detect and fix registry problems like we hav in windows?Sumthin that wud make this all a bit more easier?
