ODBC/MySQL/OpenOffice - currency problem

Hello,
Does anyone know why I can't enter currency to MySQL database?
I enter 4,90USD it returns either 5.00 or 4,00?

Am I the only one who has this problem in this forum?
I googled for about an hour to figure out that there are some others who had the same problem.
I tried to change the field type to DECIMAL(4,2) (that's what was recommended for the currencies), but it did not solve the issue. I still get the nearest round number, and it is not ideal in book-keeping.
Please, help
