od - Trying to get dump of directory

Hello & Thanks in advance! I am trying to get a dump of a directory. In good old Unix vers 7, I could just type: od -cb . I'm trying this with Debian Sarge, but I get 'read error: Is a directory'. Is there another command I need for Linux, or am I just missing something totally stupid? I tried the new and traditional options on od per the man pages.
Cheers!

a dump of a directory? You mean a list of the files in it? Try ls.

ls -li may do the trick

Hmmm, I could use ls -li, now that you mention it. I'm doing some recursive directory scanning and needed a quick way to get to the inodes. Guess I'm just used to the old way...
Thanks!
