OCR for Slackware
I am running Slackware 14 and 14.1, and am wondering if anyone can suggest OCR packages which are free for non-commercial use.
The system is running xsane for scanning, but much of what would be OCR'd is already scanned. Thanks. The most recent postings I found were almost two years old, and I figured allot may have changed. |

Hi,
You can look at similar threads(scroll down within a thread): OCR Software and Slackware to hopefully get you started on a trail to find newer packages for Slackware. That thread is only two years old but you can look at Alien_Bob's site. Plus look at: http://slackbuilds.org/ for OCR packages. Hope this helps. |
I recommend tesseract, it is the best OCR I have tried for Linux. There are probably also commercial options if you really need them.

I ran it in the past, but there's a slackbuild for it:
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14...arch=tesseract There are also GUI frontends for it: http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.../gimagereader/ http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.1/graphics/yagf/ http://www.pattern-lab.de/index.html http://code.google.com/p/linux-intel...-ocr-solution/ |
