nvidia/XFree86 crash Mandy 10.0

All I did was close mplayer, and the system crashed. I had to manually reset the system.
Upon reboot I got this error message:
Code:

(EE) NVIDIA(0) Failed to initialize the nvidia Kernel module
(EE) NVIDIA(0) *****Aborting*****
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

Fatal server error
No screens found

X10 Fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

I can't get a GUI up and running at all - the startx command returns the same error.
It also said that there would be a log file: /var/log/XFree86.0.log
Unfortunately I can't post it as it's huge and sends my message length way over the top, but if it's required then I'll see if I can get it up on a website somewhere and link it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

EDIT I knew that if I searched this forum long enough, someone else would have had this problem - it's all about refining search parameters.... which I didn't do the first time I searched for this...
Anyhoo this seems to have sorted me out:

Login as root, fire up nautilus, find /etc/modprobe.preload, open in Kwrite, add the line "nvidia" without the quotations, save, exit reboot, voila, loads into my home x session.
Job done, this thread can be closed. :)

congratulations, I am just posting so this doesn't appear to be an unresolved question.
