Nvidia propietary drivers on linux liveCD
 

Hi everybody!

I have visited this forum a lot in the last years to learn information about Linux, so above all thank you very much to the linuxquestions.org community for building this valuable resource!

Now my question:

I have a brand new Nvidia GTX750 graphics card. Nouveau does not work correctly with this card (very low resolution and red dots all around the screen appear), so I need to install propietary drivers.

I have coped with this when installing distros in my hard drive, I just install the propietary drivers following the reccomended user guidelines and that's all, but I'm now starting to work with Tails (amnesic Linux distribution) and 'unfortunately' as it's an amnesic system I'll have to install them everytime I boot.

I was wondering if there's a way to install them permanently on my Live CD/USB so I am ready to work as soon as I boot. I have not really any clue on how a LiveUSB is composed, and as far as I have searched on the Internet I have not found any information about this matter.

Thank you for your answer, but that same website explains here that you can't install drivers with that method. What I'd want is to somehow modify the Linux .iso image to include Nvidia propietary UNIX drivers, but I have not found out any way to do that.

You can easily create a real usb that has all proper tools and drivers just like you can with any real hard drive.

You can use a tool like SuseStudio to create a live cd with added drivers in usually.

Making an installation or using an installation on a USB storage device would beat the "amnesic" part of TAILS, so I wouldn't consider that a proper solution. You will have to either remaster TAILS, so that it has the driver installed (which will make it specific to systems with Nvidia hardware, it likely won't run properly on other systems), or you use a distribution that has done the work for you already, like Kanotix. Kanotix doesn't come with all the security features that TAILS offers, but it should work fine on your hardware.

I also wonder why you just don't run in vesa mode maybe?

As noted, tails is supposed to be run live. Kind of defeats the point to run it with changes.
