Unhappy Nvidia NIC Trouble!!!

Hi everyone. I'm New to LQ.org and semi new to Linux.

I have Mandrakre 9.1 install on Gigabyte GA-7N400 pro. Everything seems to be work fine accept my network card. I checked in the MCC and the correct module is loaded. I can also ping the lo. But when i try to bring up eth0, it says device not found. If anyone could help me resolve this problem I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hey,

Every time I have had that problem (that is, the ethernet card not being found) is has been because the correct module is not loaded.

I googled for your mobo and found that your NIC controller is (probably) this one Realtek 8201 Ethernet Controller. If you type:

$ /sbin/lspci | grep -i ethernet

you will be told exactly which controller is running your onboard NIC. Real-Tek have really good support in linux and you may find that the module you need is already available in your kernel.

Hope this helps.
