Nvidia Drivers

I download the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run driver for my AGP Geforce2 32bit pentium 3 laptop (Dell Inspiron 8200). The computer only see the Vesa generic driver for video. I ran this program and ot seem to have installed well. I have edited my XF86config file to the settings like what the sticky post on the newbie forum recommended. It doesn't seem to work. Anybody have any luck with this laptop or video card.

thanks

so you removed Load "dri"
added "load glx"
removed driver "nv" and added driver "nvidia"
also maybe adited resolution and screen refresh rates. ?????

when u ut hasnt installed, i assume you mean X will not start and not the driver said it had not installed ?????

what was the error message startx gave ????

open /etc/inittab and look for the defualt run level settings.
id:5:initdefault:
change to
id:3:initdefault:

reboot.

login

type
startx > ~/x-STDOUT 1 1> ~/x-STD1OUT 2> ~/x-STD2OUT

after it fails, read x-STDOUT andhe other 2 for error messages...
