B'cos of this i'm not able to enable any of the desktop effects... I have also tried installing the driver using Envy NG but still it did not work... Any suggestions on what i can do?

8.04 is beta and will not be finally released for about 3 weeks. You can expect some problems with it but they should be fixed soon.

Go to Albert Milone's page http://www.albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html. Read the FAQs and install EnvyNGH as instructed.
