nvidia driver/kernel version problem

running Fedora 7

uname -r : 2.6.22.5-76.fc7

yum -y install kmod-nvidia returns:
kernel-i686 = 2.6.22.4-65.fc7 is needed by package kmod-nvidia

So I went to livna and found the nvidia package for my
kernel, and when i install it I get:
nvidia-100.14.11-1.2.6.22.5_76.fc7.i686.rpm is already installed

I'm pretty sure it's not running because I dont see the
splash screen, and I am stuck at 640x480..how can I determine
if the module is actually running, and if not, load it?
thanks
