I am new to Linux. Iv'e been using Mint 8 for a few weeks and decided to upgrade to Mint 9.
I did the upgrade & am trying to install the Nvidia graphics driver.
I used the standard
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
command to shut off the gdm. This worked great in Mint 8 but in Mint 9 once the gdm stops no other commands work. The " sh /Nvidia etc" doesn't work. The "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" nor "sudo reboot" don't work. I'm forced to mannual reboot the system.
The only "error" message I get is
Glib-warning getpwud-r() failed due to unknown userID.
Also the text on the screen is not aligned. It appears like this:
Does this method not work with a Ubuntu 10.04 based system?
