Just a question for general knowledge

How many flavours of linux are available.

hundreds more, I can't list them all b/c it is so many and I am on a top of my head, the most popular also include
gentoo
slackware
Yellow Dog
Turbolinux
Phat
Trustix
Bastille linux
and others, I am not kidding the number goes well beyond one hundred

Just do a basic search on http://www.google.com/linux for linux flavors - you'll get thousands of hits - here is the one that lists just a handfull of the most popular distros http://mel.lib.mi.us/internet/INET-os-linuxflavors.html
And there is of course a distro of all distros - LFS ( http://www.linuxfromscratch.org ) - build your own distro!!!
