You don't say what you want to monitor, or how, so I doubt anyone can provide "the step by step guidance".

I'd suggest you read the documentation, and come back with any questions or difficulties you have, after you've taken action.

thanks TB0ne.
i am installing the ntop to capture and monitor network performance, the result of this performance will be displayed using charts and graphs.
i have successfully installed the application, the application is running and i can view it via the web interface.

the problem with the viewing is that the web interface times out every 2minutes - when this happens, i have to re-initialize my daemon using sudo ntop -u test -d (my username is test). this runs for another 2minutes before time out. please can anyone assist me with overcoming this?
Also, i have a configuration file (ntop.conf) how do i put it in its location (/etc/ntop.conf )? do i just save it in a text editor as 'ntop.conf' and put it in the location?
thanks y'all for the prompt response and support
