NTLDR is missing. Booting in Win2k.

i've seen a couple ntldr threads already, but none of 'em were of any help. i'm another windows ditcher that wants to enter the linux world. for now, i've decided to dual boot win2k and fedora (the distro i decided to start with). i've downloaded and burned the fedora iso's to attempt a CD boot but i get the "NTLDR is missing" message after it reads the CD. doesn't go into the install procedure or anythin'.

i do hav two HD's, a 30 GB and a 4 GB (where i want linux). i previously used the smaller one as a storage/page file but removed the partition on it (using Windows' Disk Management) so it's unallocated now.

can sumone tell me wut i'm supposed to do to get passed the "NTLDR" error?

thanks a lot.

I belive NTLDR is the boot file for windows.. so you shouldn't realy need it for booting from the cd.. You probably get this error because something went wrong creating a bootable cd and it tries to boot windows from the cd or something(where it can't find ntldr)..

Try to burn the cd again or make a bootable floppy and use it to start the install from the cd.

i'm beginning to think i made the CD wrong.. i used Nero 9 to make a Bootable CD and burned the .iso file into each CD. isn't that rite? well it still won't boot that way so i jus decided to try a floppy boot. the good news is that it works this way, but i don't noe wut to do from here. after i press <ENTER> from the "boot:" prompt, it gives me another error saying something like "bad kernel". what's going on here?

If you are using Nero 6 you can just follow these directions from llinuxiso.org:

# Start Nero
# Choose the menu command "File"->"Burn Image"
# An "Open" file dialog box appears with the following image types supported (*.nrg, *.iso, *.cue)
# Select your download LinuxISO file and click Open
# The "Write CD" dialog box appears with several tabs (Info, Foreign image, Misc, Burn).
# Click the 'Burn' Tab
# Confirm that 'Write' and 'Finalize' are selected
# Click on "Write". Watch it burn.

If you used the Nero option to make a bootable cd it probably won't work., in my version of nero (6.3, I believe) it is under >>Recorder>>burn image
then just choose the iso you downloaded and check finaliz like it says above and you should be set.
