NTFS partition got hidden, how to unhide?
Hey all,
I tried searching internet for an answer for my problem but turned up with nothing. So that's why I post it here. Here's my situation: I have WinXP installed an a 160 GB drive. I wanted to try linux (for the seventh time :p) so I decided to install Knoppix on a new drive. After installation the situation is like this: Disk 1 (160GB) ------------------- Windows (NTFS) - 40 GB Data1 (NTFS) - 120 GB Disk 2 (80 GB) ------------------ Knoppix (Ext3) - 10 GB Swap (swap) - 1 GB Data2 (NTFS) - 69 GB Everything boots up just fine, all partitions are visible in Knoppix. BUT my data1 partition, containing all my photo's, music, movies, and other crap disappeared in Windows. Thank god I found out it was only set to hidden. So I tried using QTParted to set it active. I succeeded, and rebooted into XP, but it was still hidden. Someone told me to unhide it in Partition Magic, so I purchased it, set it to unhidden, rebooted, and: Still hidden I have no clue and no idea how to get it to be visible in Windows XP. I use Lilo as bootmanager. My best guess is that lilo sets it hidden at every startup. Please help me. Don't make me go back to only WinXP... Greetz, Whyaken |
If lilo is hiding it, then you can examine /etc/lilo.conf and check the following site for correcting the issue.

How can I open it?
simply clicking it gives me the message I have to be root, I can't log in under root in knoppix, I can use root in terminal,. but how can I open the file in a terminal? |

let's have a look, i'll write back in a minute |
I checked the file and the URL you gave me, but it didn't help me to unhide my partition in windows XP :( any other suggestions someone?
