NTFS Issues

Hi All, New guy here. Been an MCSE for 20+ years, now making the switch to the Dark Side. Actually have prior experience with SUSE in the late 90's.

On RHEL v.6 i686, not 64bit version.
I have done a ton of research but seem to have missed something.

Installed NTFS-3g,
dkms-2.2.0.3-2.el6.noarch.rpm,
rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.i686.rpm
All as root.

Still get this error:
Error mounting: mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs'
When trying to mount a 2.5" USB drive in NTFS.
I have sucessfully installed the latest Flash and JRE updates.

When I go into Disk Utility I have the option to format a partition to NTFS, at least it shows up as an option but errors out telling me that "File System Tools" are not loaded.

Here are the error details:
Error creating file system: Cannot run mkfs: cannot spawn 'mkntfs -f -L "HDD2 NTFS" /dev/sdb2': Failed to execute child process "mkntfs" (No such file or directory)

I'm not really that concerned with formatting in NTFS, I can do that on a NTFS native OS.
But I would like to be able to transfer files from my other NTFS machines and transfer devices.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You may need to reboot so the ntfs kernel module loads.

Code:
ls /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/kernel/fs/ | grep ntfs
Also, when you mount it mount like this:
Code:
mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt/pnt

well, I know I have read about "fuse" and "ntfs-3g" somewhere, but the closest I find is this:
- mount ntfs usb
- mount USB in RHEL5

I hope it helps.

good luck
