NTFS-Config update wrecked iPod automount?

I've been using Ubuntu for the last 9 months, but am still a noob. I know enough to fiddle and stuff things up . . . but not enough to fix my mistakes!!

Sorry to post on this again - there's already so many problems with iPods not automounting, maybe there should be a stickie or wiki??

Anyway, my iPod (5G, 60GB) was automounting perfectly on both my Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 machines then . . .

It stopped automounting on my desktop (still works on the laptop). It stopped working immediately after some routine updates from the 'Updatemanager'. It works with XP, and my Feisty laptop.

I can only conclude that an update to software only on the desktop has mucked up a setting or my fstab or something.

I saw a reference to problems with ntfs-config and ipod automounting, and that extra ntfs utilities are needed to get it working again, on the Ubuntu forums, but I can't find it again.

Could an upgrade messed up one of my configuration files etc?

Any ideas?? Grateful for any help.

PS I think I've been able to manually mount the ipod (though no desktop icon has appeared)

Fixed.

Used Storage device manager to reset the defaults on the ipod and rebooted.

Working fine again.
