You will the Linux NTFS driver before doing anything with NTFS (see www.ntfs-3g.org/
). If there is a way to read dynamic NTFS disks at all than with that driver, AFAIK. Check out the site for details and infos.
If Ubuntu is your main OS, then it makes sense to backup all data and reformat the disk for Ubuntu's own preferred disk format, then copying back all data onto it. It will be faster to use.
