Notebook screen problems

Occassionally with Mandrake and RedHat the screens goes off - like it is in some sort of power-saving mode. It is not my screen-saver. Then when I press a key the screens flicks back on.

It occurred about 5mins ago when I was compiling some source code ie heavy cpu load. Is it related?

Check your notebook's BIOS for screensaving poweroff functions. It shouldn't affect your processing at all, but it might be worth turning it off - there have been incidents where it doesn't come back on again properly.
