Not thr correct Screen resolution in Mandriva 2009 Spring

Hello,
I am having a Dell E1909W 19" LCD desktop monitor, the default resolution of which is 1440 x 900.
The problem which i face is:

Today i installed MANDRIVA SPRING 2009 OS. After loading the software and rebooting the same, i can't see my default desktop. To be precise, the left end of the desktop is completely out and as a result the right end is blank. As the left end is out of the screen, i can't navigate the menus. The situation holds true whether i use KDE or GNOME.

I tried the set up menu -tried to change the resolution (eg: 1024 x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024 etc), changed the horizontal refresh rate, but to no avail. Though with the above said resolutions, the desktop could be brought to full screen, it was not as good or efficient, pleasing as the default resolution - 1440x900.

There is no problem with screen resolution on using Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora.
The problem appears on Mandriva as well as Opensuse.

I am new to linux.

I would like to use Mandriva with the default screen resolution (1440x900). I therefore humbly request to help me in this regard (as i like the distro Mandriva (GNOME) very much)

I am using AMD PHENOM X8450 processor with ASUS M3A 78-EM motherboard.
Please help.

Regards
Kareth
