Not receiving mail.

Hi All:

Have spent more than a day to solve this issue. I have been using Red Hat Linux for two years. While finnishing setting a second box Red Hat ES 3, I am having the cant' receive email problem. Need help from the pro's here.

I am using sendmail as mta and squirrelmail

1-- Telnet to 127.0.0.1 25 shows sendmail is listening
2-- tail /var/mail/maillog shows my login and logout to imapd
3-- Only user at /var/spool/mail is root ***
4-- /etc/hosts:
x.x.x.x mydomain myhostname

I have created another user webmaster and when I try to send mail I get:

<webmaster@mydomain.com>:
Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

LQ users help will be appreciated

This is another error message:

Deferred: Connection refused by
mail.mydomain.com.

However, I don't have registered mail.mydomain.com. I use just mydomain.com. Also, I have Apache 2.0.50 working fine I can connect and domain have been populated.

Add mydomain.com to /etc/mail/local-host-names, restart Sendmail

Add it exactly as is

/etc/mail/local-host-names
# local-host-names - include all aliases for your machine here.
mydomain.com

Well dit that, but problem was fixed after adding:

mydomain.com RELAY
MYIP RELAY

to /etc/mail/access

also added:

mydomain.com to

/etc/mail/relay-domains

Now, after a 1 1/2 days with a *big* headache, I am now a happy man.

Posted here so it could help other with similar setups.

Only thing now is to check if I have an open relay hole. How I can test that?

TIA
