Not able to stop iptables.


Hi Team,

I have rhel 6.1 server and i have stopped the iptables but after sometime it is showing iptables is on. i did below commands to stop the iptables.

# service iptables stop
#chkconfig iptables off

and tried this also

# /etc/init.d/iptables stop
#chkconfig iptables off

but still it is running... how to stop firewall permanently? please help me..

If you didn't get any error msgs, it should be stopped. What makes you think it isn't? Don't describe, provide evidence,

once i did ipatables -L am getting like

[root@GSI-STS-AS2 ~]# iptables -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
[root@GSI-STS-AS2 ~]#

Exactly; that shows its not doing any filtering.
You should know that iptables is technically a kernel module; its just made to look like a normal service.

...and you were told that it wasn't running there. Did you read/understand the replies you got in that thread?? And we will AGAIN point out that, since you're using RHEL 6.1, you should be PAYING FOR IT, and calling Red Hat support.
