Question Not able to ping router

Hey guys

I have installed a machine with slackware 12, but there is something wrong with the network. Her's the problem.
I'm able to ping the server 192.168.42.3
I'm not able ping the router from the linux machine.(192.168.42.2)
I'm able to ping the router from all other PC's on the network.

In resolve.conf: search mydomain.com
nameserver 192.168.43.3

in inet1.conf: ip address: 192.168.42.245
gateway: 192.168.42.2

The problem lies in I need to receive datapackets on port 8080 but cannot get the packets through to the linux machine.

I have a simular machine with same configuration and there is no problem here. So firewall and portforwarding is ok.

Any good idea of what I have to enable or disable.

Ps: I can manage the linux remotely by SSH

what is your subnet mask set at?

if you are only able to ping local to you the SNM might be set incorrectly.

is the other machine set to acept forwarding data also on port 8080?

if so therin lies your problem.... when the router recives a packet it dousent know which machine to send it to,

choose a differnt port. set up forwarding for the second machine and chances are it will work

Well the other machine isn't on the network at the same time. Only one machine is on the network. But the 2 machines has the same configuration, so in my world it should be the same whether the one or another is attach to the network. I have tried several others machines also with the same configuration in the past and there was no problem in switching the computers. They all received data packets on 8080, from WAN side

The machine actually receives the data packets if they were send from inside the network.
So i'm very confused about this problem.
