Not able to ping fom hostname between two RHEL5 virtual machines

Hi

I have installed two virtual machines as RHEL 5 in vmware, assigned IP addresses and can ping easily. But I m not able to ping the same with hostnames. I have entered the IP address and hostname in /etc/resolv.conf on both the machines. Pls suggest me why I m getting this error " unknown hostname" while pinging.

resolv.conf is only used by DNS. Should only contain the search option and the ip addresses of DNS servers (limit of 3 iirc)
