not able to open Secondary Hard disk in Ubuntu 8.10

I connected a secondary hard disk to cpu and it shows as a usb drive in ubuntu but it doesn't open the disk or when i look at the properties it shows unknown size....I had no problem opening in Windows xp.....

It doesn't open the drive how? Automatically? Manually? What make and model is the drive? The more info you give, the better the response!

Make sure NTFS support is installed.
