Not able to connect to wifi


Hi
I am using ubuntu 12.04. I am using Dell xps laptop. But i am unable to connect to wifi. while if i am using any data card than i am getting network connection . Don't know what is happening . Any solution would be appreciated..

hello
try with the latest version of ubuntu, it may have driver for your wifi card.

if that fails enter into terminal lspci and find out your card model. Than you can search google for "ubuntu solution" for that card.

Look in the control center for something called "Additional Hardware" or some such name. Click on it; if you need a proprietary driver, it could well install it for you (this worked on my Dells with Ubuntu).

Since it's a Dell, there's a good chance you have a Broadcom chip; Dell likes Broadcom. This post will give you the tools for checking that out and some tips for getting Broadcom to work:

It will also tell you how to determine what wireless chipset you have, which is essential information for further troubleshooting of this issue.
