Not able to connect to internet on Oracle Enterprise Linux(OEL) 6.2

Hi All,
Recently I have installed Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.2 at my home desktop. All the installation was successful except I can not browse internet using firefox. I have validated the internet connection option, it is showing correct IP address and gateway. I tried to investigate the reason, I can not ping the www.yahoo.com, but I can ping 98.139.183.24 which is the IP address for yahoo. Please help. I have TimeWarner cable for internet connected through router.

Thanks,
AP

Sounds like you don't have /etc/resolv.conf setup correctly.
If you can ping IP, but not DNS name, then DNS is not setup correctly.
You'll need to know the IP addresses of their DNS servers; usually a pair.
You could try this page, scroll down to Linux section http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7406/...le-public-dns/
You could also search here at LQ; think I've seen this qn before somewhere.

Good luck & Welcome to LQ :)

Thanks Chris for your response. It is resolved now after changing the resolv.conf. I was confused about the entries in the resolv.conf file. I have used the default gateway IP 192.168.1.1 and it started working.
Thanks,
AP
