Not able launch KDE_Fedora core on remote computer using ssh-X

Hi all,

I used to ssh -X and connected to a remote server running Fedora Core1.Now since i am not able to launch the window managers( is this the right name?) like KDE,OWM..etc available under Linux. But i am able to launch GUIs of other installed software say Xine or Xcalc or Galeon..etc.

I am sure KDE is available on the remote server.

I would also like to know where executable files of applications or software or usually stored in Linux( I have seen a number of directories like bin,sbin,dev......etc).

Thank you
Fed.

they are usually stored in places like /bin /sbin /usr/sbin, etc.

as far as viewing the gui over a remote connection, have you tried changing your DISPLAY variable to the IP address of the remote computer?

Yeah i have tried setting the DISPLAY var to that of the remote computer and also to the one i am using. But that doesnt work!

X server seems to be running on both computers.

I would like to mention that i am trying to access from a computer pool account in one Dept to a computer pool account in another dept in an University network.

Is the problem because the remote server has both Linux and WindowsXP?
