No X-Windows in Debian

Just installed debian sarge. I did a net install but installation didnt configure x windows. There's no /etc/X11 directory (if there's ever in debian). Can anyone tell me how to install an X environment.

Thanks,
Tux,

Try below:

#apt-get install x-window-system

#apt-get install kdelibs kdebase task-kdeadmin task-kdeutils

please make sure you must have correct apt sources before you do above!!

thatis if you want KDE... I think KDE kinda sucks and Gnome is awesome under debian... I'm running Sarge with debian...

apt-get update
apt-get install x-window-system
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment
apt-get install gdm

After this is all done installing... run

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

and setup your X Windows System...

after this reboot and you should boot right into the gdm GUI login screen...

Good Luck!

Well, rebooting isn't necessary. This ain't windows, after all. :-) Just start gdm.

Edit: or kdm, or xdm - whichever you installed/want to use.
