No wireless networks detected automatically in fedora 15.
I recently installed fedora 15 on my Dell Inspiron N4010 (
DUAL BOOT along with windows 7) , Worked Fine ! BUT "Fedora does not show any of the available wireless network". SO, I do not have access to internet While using fedora though i can use it on windows 7. Somewhere on the internet i read that I need to install BROADCOM Driver for fedora. For those who do not have internet access while running fedora can still download required files from RPM Fusion and then install them. According to the forum,'the file to be downloaded from RPM Fusion can be told according to the result of "uname -r" in the terminal'. The result for uname -r was - 2.6.38.6-26.rcl.fc15.i686 I still do not have any idea about- 1.) What are the files that I have to download to get my wireless network detected automatically in fedora. 2.) What do I do with the files after i download the on the same machine but on other operating system(as internet access is only available in it) |
You need the firmware for the BCM4313 chipset, as indicated in the lspci output.

I realized this morning that the Fedora link would not be helpful except to add to your knowledge of the topic.
Ubuntu has the required files available if you can get to a wired connection. In the Synaptic Package manager, go to Settings-->Repositories and enable the "Proprietary Drivers . . ." item, then hit the "Seach" button and search for Broadcom or BCM. There should be similar settings in the Ubuntu Software Center, but I don't know where to find them. I prefer Synaptic or apt for package management. I think the package you want is "Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver source." Files are also available from Broadcom, but it will be easier if you use a wired connection, even if you borrow one from a friend for a few minutes, and let Synaptic do the installing. http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php |
