No Windows on Suse dual boot menu
I have recently installed suse 9.0 and recently came across problems
Initially I tried to install it onto a 40gig IDE hdd it would just freeze when deteting hardware. Because of this I was advised to try disabling the other hdd I have (the one with windows in) in the bios. I don't know with this being a Serial ATA hdd could cause problems here. I have since enabled this in the bios after successfully being able to inatll linux. The problem is, because of this windows does not appear in the dual boot menu for suse. Being extreamly new to the world of linux (I bet it's not the first time you've heard that sentence) I am wondering if there is anyway to add the option of booting into windows from the suse boot menu. I have a windows installation sitting out of reach on this seperate hard drive and it's quite annoying ;) Any help would be appreciated or if someone could just point me in the right direction. :newbie: to :Pengy: |
If you disabled the Windows hd, you will have to renable it to boot it.

I have already re-enabled it, I'm just wondering if there is a way to now add windows to the bott menu as all I have is linux and failsafe

Yes. As root, open /boot/grub/menu.lst in a text editor. Add something like this:
title Windows XP rootnoverify(hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1 |
Thanks very much for the help.
I will try this once I get home and give you feedback :) Thanks, Adam (Looking forward to the world on linux) |
