No windowmanager loaded on Acer eMachines E525
I recently decided to pick up the whole linux idea again, but I'm having a lot more trouble than I used to have. I'm fairly new with Linux, even though I've had several working distros on my PC.
The problem is, I can't get linux running on my laptop.
I tried to install it on an Acer eMachines E525 laptop, which has some kind of Intel graphics chip.
I've tried several distros (64Studio, Ubuntu Studio, Mint) but neither of them really works.
The best I got was from Ubuntu Studio, which has a non-graphical installation, and the rest I couldn't even install.
The funny thing is, When I try to boot Ubuntu Studio, I don't even get a terminal screen. Just eternal Blackness. It seems to be reading from the harddisk, spins the dvd-drive a bit, flashes a white screen, and that's just about it.
I can't even figure out if it got past the bootloader, because there is nothing to read, nothing to see, and no beeps from the motherboard.
Now before you conclude that it's the hardware; I removed a working version of Windows 7...
Okay, I did some research and I think I've found the problem. I've only been using versions with brand new kernels, and they sometimes turn off the backlight of the screen. Hence the total blackness.
Now I was wondering how to turn that on, and increase the brightness (a lot) without seeing anything. I'm not even sure if it's actually running.
