Switch to 2.6.1 - No Video - Radeon Card
OK... So I am running fine with the 2.4.22 kernel and the fglrx drivers from ATI for my Radeon 9500. The problem is that I want to add a Sata drive... No problem right? 'cuse Sata is supported in 2.6.1 and it doesn't say (EXPERIMENTAL)
I browse over to the Slackware forum and find a compiling guide and follow it to the letter. (I add support for my Radeon card before compiling) So I restart and come back to Lilo. I have my "Linux" and "slack.old" so I select "Linux". Before I see a single line, the screen goes black. My monitor says nothing. (If there is no signal or the signal is out of the frequency range, it tells me.) I waited a good long time to see if I would get anywhere. Nothing still. So to restart the computer I type "root" (enter) ~root password and hit enter again... wait a second... Then I type "shutdown -r now" and I wait a little while and sure enough it worked. So this is telling me that the new kernel is running fine, except I have nothing for my display. I'm not sure what else to try... any suggestions? |
change the vga = line in lilo.conf to
vga = normal see if that works. i'm not sure about 2.6.1, but, when i compiled 2.6.0 that fixed my problem. good luck. |
Dang... That didn't work... Exactly the same thing.
I got really excited because your answer made a lot of sense. |
sorry, sounds like you may have to compile again. i've seen lots of issues about framebuffer support. don't know if that will help or not.
good luck. just another thought, did you rerun lilo after editing it? |
Oh yeah... I reinstalled lilo with vga = normal
