No video on startup

I have a new install of red hat 9 which went fine but i have a video problem once it boots, the video is basically a black screen. you can tell that there are icons and a mouse on the screen but just odd colours. I did get it to change to grey by hitting ctrl alt + but it just gave me a greyscale screen which was too large to work with.

The install did not find my video card when it was loading, my card is an msi 5600fx. I also have a mandrake 8.1 install running on the same virtual machine and it picks the card up as an s3 trio 64 but works fine.

Any help to get this solved would be great.
right now i cant get the grey screen back so cant do anything in the interface.

Newbie would appreciate the help.

What do you mean, the same virtual machine? Are you running it through VMWare or something?

Also, why do you even have a new install of RH9? It's two or three versions old. It's nearly always better to use the newest [stable] version available, since they may have already fixed your problem in the new version.
