No Valid Devices Error During Rh 9 Install

I am trying to install Red Hat Linux 9 for the first time and keep getting this error:

An error has occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem.

I also see an earlier error stating that there was no hard drive detected. However, the BOIS shows the harddrive and I had windows on this PC before the install attempt, so I don't think it's the cause.

The HDD is a Maxtor 80 gig IDE drive that's about 2 years old.

I tried Mandrake 10 and Fedora, all with the same results.

I have tried 2 different computers with no luck. Can anyone please help me with this issue?

Thanks.

Did you create Linux partitions on your hard drive? You'll need at minimum two partitons, one for the Linux filesystem and one for swap space.

btmiller,

I can't get far enough to do that.

As soon as I get to the partition screen and select either of the two options, I get this error.

Thanks.
