No UTMPX entry, You must EXEC "login" for the lowest "shell"
 

I have this message in Suns 5.10 sparce server ( No UTMPX entry, You must EXEC "login" for the lowest "shell" ) and then I can't access to the server at all . When I write the password the page disappeared . So pls help me how to solve this problem... Thanks a lot

Dear Jamal,
it is not enough clear to me the situation.
When you turn your machine on, you look at the screen and see this message. right?
then you say
that means that you write your login name and the password and click ENTER, right?
and then
the screen is black and nothing happens, right?
Is this situation new? were you able to login before? is this a fresh installation? is this an upgrade?
Can you provide more information about your system?

This situation is new I got the message first and I do nothing and then when I turn on the srever and I write name and password and click enter the screen is disappeared and nothing happens . I did not any upgrade and it is old and I login before every day

Please read the LQ Rules...you opened another thread for this same question...it has been reported. Please don't do that.

And instead of trying to log in on the console, you should log in over the network...have you tried that??? SSH or Telnet? You can clear things up from that point. Also, since you're using Solaris on a SPARC server, you're paying for support from Sun...have you called them?

I tried telnet and ssh but it is failed. I have no supported because the contract is finished.so what I suppose to do

Just saying "it is failed", tells us nothing. If the system is prompting you for a user ID/password, the system has obviously booted. You also don't tell us what user ID you're logging in with...can you log in AT ALL to the system, with ANY user???

If you looked at the Solaris documentation, this problem is typically either caused by a full/malfunctioning disk, or use the wtmpx command to clear the file.

Thank you so much for all replying and I am so sorry because may be my question not clear.
1- when I login as root I got the message that I mentioned ( No UTMPX entry, You must EXEC "login" for the lowest "shell" ). Unfortunately I ignored the message because I am new on that and didn't understand the message .
2- I made shutdown without problem.
3- later when we power on the server then use name and password and after enter the shell screen disappear immediatly and nothing happens
4- also I can't login as a user
I hope the situation now is clear and I need to know what to do

If you need to know what to do, then go back and READ and UNDERSTAND what you were told in my last post. I sent you a link to a page with instructions, and even told you the command.

Again, you were asked if you could log in as ANY OTHER USER, and you didn't answer.

No, you told us you logged in as ROOT. You said:

1. Post #1: "When I write the password the page disappeared" (meaning you typed in a user name/password..or LOGGED IN)
2. Post #3: "..and I write name and password and click enter.."
3. Post #7: " when I login as root "

So, AGAIN...have you tried logging in with DIFFERENT USER NAME???? Did you try typing something in OTHER THAN ROOT???? And you say this is coming up on the console...again, is this the serial console, or the GUI/CDE login screen???

And AGAIN, did you read the link you were handed before??? Posting it here again, since you missed it before, obviously:

You explained the problem fine..you just aren't understanding the answer.

AGAIN, you were handed a link with VERY CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS on how to resolve the issue. Either follow it or not.
