no sound thru USB : Ubuntu 9.04 / Alesis Multimix8 USB
 
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a laptop PC w/Vista (dual boot). Just about everything works fine exc. for no sound thru USB port, though the mixer I connect,(Alesis) is seen by Ubuntu & listed as "USB Audio Device". I'm real new to command line int. language, & need a simple way, if possible, to get this working. Thanx!

Are you able to configure the device within ubuntu ?

Also is it listed in the sound manager(mixer settings) ?

Got it working some.
 
Thanx for your response. After posting my question, I was able to get it working, but only for the player apps. that were originally supplied with the Ubuntu installation (Rhythmbox, Totem). Is there a way to get the others working (VLC, etc.) or would I have to download Jack or something else ?
