No sound, think i know why, but still need help

I recently installed Linux on my machine with a dual-boot with Windows XP (I plan to ue Windows for games, and Linux for everything else), I have a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS installed, and I cant get sound to come through it. I think I know why, but I dont know what to do about it.

My computer was originally an IBM NetVista A30p more than a year ago, when I first bought it. It's since been heavily customized, with the mobo, processor, and RAM being the only OEM parts left (even the monitor, case, and HDs are new). The thing is, that mobo has Intel's integrated audio built into it. In windows, I would simply disable that hardware, or tell the OS to use the Audigy 2 instead. The thing is, I don't know how to do either of those in Linux. I can see both audio devices in the settings area, but I don't know what I need to do.

Can anyone help me?

I'm a Linux n00b, but wouldn't it be simpler to go into your BIOS and disable the onboard sound?

Which is exactly what I did to stop some sound problems that I had i.e. the onboard chip seemed to conflict with the Soundblaster 5.1 digital that I put in.

Oh and go into the mandrake control centre (configure my computer) and you should also look at the hardware list, and then look at the sound card listing to make sure it's trying to use the correct driver.

Because if I ever need to re-install, mandrake always want's to use the Audigy() driver with my card, but it doesn't work as it needs the emu10k1, hence it's worth checking.

John
