No sound Puppy Linux 4.0 Asus m2npv-vm amd 64 nvidia geforce 6150

I am new to linux. Motherboard is Asus m2npv-vm with amd 64 dual processor, 2 gig memory, Nvidia Geforce 6150 onboard graphics. Can get Ubuntu 8.04 to work, Slax 6.0.7 to work with nvidia modules, Slitaz cooking edition, but cannot get Puppy linux 4.0 sound to work. Used puppy installer to place 964317.pet and later removed. Then used 100.14.19.pet and still had no sound. Restarted computer after each setup and checked master volume.

Thanks for your patience and assistance.

For your sound, you do not need the nvidia drivers.

Open terminal

#lspci

post the output of that

or simply compare the output of

#lsmod in Ubuntu and the other distro and

#modprobe <the module>

#man modprobe

check this.

Hi,
I own the same Mobo. I just installed Puppy 4.0 and like you had no sound.
Solving the problem was finally simple :
1) of course, lauching alsaconf.
2) executing alsamixer and then checking if some voices were muted. there was some indeed.
to mute/unmute a voice, just press "m". "OO" means unmuted while "MM" means muted.

hope this will clear your problem.

Thank you d_o_k! I was having the same problem as the original poster, and as a complete Linux newbie I had no idea what to do, and didn't even understand most of the other suggestions I've seen for the problem. Luckily, the problem was just that everything was muted, as you suggested, so now I've un-muted it my sound is working perfectly :-) Thanks again!
