no sound opensuse 10.3


I have Toshiba Tecra A8-103 model of laptop and i can't hear any sound on KDE openSUSE 10.3. I don't even get any error message while playing some songs..
My sound card is 82801G ICH7 family HD audio controler.
Some 1 please help!

You might try running alsamixer from a console prompt and see what the sound settings are there. On my laptop, they were nearly muted and I had to turn all of them up before I could hear anything. My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra M3-S336.

are you sure the sound isn't muted?

I think I can help you here.

It's a common problem with sound cards like this one, and I know since I have the same card. Apparently, the alsa-driver is having a hard time with this model and needs to be patched.

I'm using Fedora 7 (with ALSA version 1.0.14) and I got the sound working by following the solution here: http://paparadit.blogspot.com/2007/0...mate-6291.html
(scroll down to the bottom of that page and follow what is written in the second comment)

If alsamixer shows that your sound is not muted, try that solution. I'm pretty sure that it'll work with openSUSE as well.

I found on other forum answer and i installed alsa-firmware software package and after that i had sound on my system
