No sound on SLED 10

Hi,
I am running SLED 10 on a thinkpad t60p. Everything works fine, but sometimes upon startup I have no sound. The only remedy I have found for this so far is to reboot, this always works. My question is, does anybody know of a daemon I can restart or something so that I don't have to restart?

thanks!

OK,
I did an /etc/init.d/alsasound stop and start. And I now have sound! However, I get a red x on my volume control and it says there may not be a sound card configured. Any ideas? Maybe I have to restart the panel? Not a big deal though, number one is that I have sound.

thanks
