No Sound on my HP Pavilion dv5118tx after installing Fedora 11

There is no sound on my HP Pavilion dv5118tx model, after installing fedora 11. I tried various options, but no luck. Even I went to linuxant.com to check the drivers and found these two:
Name: Conexant HD Audio modem
Needed package: hsfmodem
Also recommended package: alsa-driver-linuxant

These two packages are installed and up to date. Still no sound.

Distribution: Fedora Core 11

search google on your chipset Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)

what is the output of $ aplay -l

That will confirm what chip set you need to search on.

Now what should I do?

pmanasranjan 07-05-2009 09:17 PM

I also tried this from my terminal:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh

The output of above scipt is updated in following URL:

Please let me know, if I need to do anything after taking a look the output. Hope this output will give you some solution to get my sound. Still there is no sound.

First I use Debian not FadoraCore and there are some differences. Second I may not be the best person to help you. That said.

Not sure why you would need a modem driver for a sound card. I would think the driver would already be in your kernel. So get root permissions (su sudo or however you do it) and run
Code:

# modprobe | less
Look through that and see if you can locate the driver. I don't know what the driver module is named so you will have to search like I said before on that sound card to find out what the driver module is. we need to know that first.

May be the content is getting deleted after some time frame. But anyway, this was the output:

I already have hsfmodem driver installed. FYI I have dual boot. XP Pro and Fedora 11. Sound works great in Windows. But not in Fedora.

Well it looks like the module is getting loaded and the card is being recognized. I am not familar with Fedora so I don't think there is much more I can do to help you. I would think that there are some kind of sound card config apps that you could check for mis-config issues. Beyound that I don't know what else to tell you. Maybe someone else hear can offer some insite.
