No Sound on Mepis

I just finished installing Simply Mepis.
My problem is that there's no sound coming through my speakers.
I'm using an Audigy 2 Value (SB0400) sound card.
I've tried going into kmix and changing the "current mixer" to Audigy
but still no sound
I've checked the cords and everything is plugged in
The sound card and speakers have worked on my previous versions of linux (ubuntu, suse)
I've tried everything I can do but I still can't get any sound
Please help

Did you double check the settings - particularly the driver being used in the Kde Control Centre? Restart the sound system?

I had a problem with a recent linux install with sound associating itself with a usb device tv device.

Have you tried running alsamixer from a {a,e,x}term to see if any of the channels are muted in alsa. If any are that you think might make a difference hit m to unmute (if muted they will have mm in the space where it usually gives a number.) For some reason alsa ships with all the important channels muted.

sound

If your soundcard is digital use
# alsamixer
and find Analog/Digital jack Output and press m to turn it on. Then
# alsactl store

Where do I find alsamixer or how do I run it?

just open a terminal window & type alsamixer <enter> as superuser ($su <enter>)
you'll see the volume settings, if it doesn't work, 1st type alsaconf <enter> & then alsamixer <enter> set the volume & finally alsactl store <enter>

Ya I tried that but the sound still doesn't work
I think that this is because in alsamixer, the sound card is an intel soumething or other
but the sound card I'm using is an Audigy
so how do I change from the intel (default) to the audigy card?
