No sound, just fuzzy noise!

IHi, hope someone can help. I can't get any sound to come out of the speakers, which just persist on making loud feedback noise constantly instead.

I'm not getting any error messages, when I try to play a sound file in Kaffeine or Amarok. The card is recognised by the system (in KDE menu - system - configuration-hardware - Harddrake) which says it is using driver module snd-cmipci. I'm pretty sure the volume is not muted.

The card works no probs in windows on the same PC.

#alsamixer

Configure bars with arrows, enable or disable service with "m" key.
When done ESC

#alsactl store
P.S. If you have 5.1 speaker system, be sure that LFE channels bars are all way down and [off]. LFE channel is to generate 5.1 emulation matrix on 4 speaker systems.

Thank you SlackerLX, I had no idea that was there. I set all the output channels to 100% and made sure they were switched on, then stored as you said. I don't have the LFE bars, it's a 4 channel.

No change in the problem though, sadly...

That's definitely helped. Kaffeine now plays music, but I've still got my fuzzy noises. Playing with Kmix, I noticed that using the "turn off mic boost" switch" muffles it quite a lot, I'm guessing the card is picking up loads of noise somehow. I used to have the same problem with the mic on my old laptop running windows, and fixed it by just turning the mic in volume to zero, but it doesn't seem to work here.

I'm overjoyed at being able to play my tunes though!
